Dear Parents,
Mazel Tov on you son becoming Bar Mitzvah this year!
As your son is turning Bar Mitzvah, we would like to invite him to the Bar Mitzvah enrichment course offered at Chabad Glen Eira.
The course is enriching, meaningful and fun and will equip the boys with what it means to become Bar Mitzvah while inspiring them on their Bar Mitzvah journey.
Among the various topics and community involvement, the boys will also explore the Jewish perspective and life lessons on relevant and current themes giving them confidence and meaning in their future as young Jewish men.
The course is available to all boys, they do not need to be a member of the Shul or celebrating their Bar Mitzvah at Chabad Glen Eira to join the enrichment course.
The program and lessons are run by Rabbi Moshe Loebenstein in an informal setting giving the boys the confidence to ask, explore and internalise what is being learnt. Parent/s are invited to join during various sessions throughout the year.
The course will take place Thursday evenings from 7.15-8.15pm and will run during school terms two and three at Chabad Glen Eira, cost $190/term.

Unit 1 – The core
Boys will gain a deep understanding and appreciation for what it means to become Bar Mitzvah through exploring what a Neshamah is, and the meaning behind the Mitzvot connected to Bar Mitzvah with the responsibilities and beautiful privileges it comes with. It will allow the boys to comprehend their place in the world and inspire them with purpose as young Jewish men. During this unit the boys will also be fascinated and at awe as they discover evidence proving the Torah was given 3300 years ago.
Unit 2 – Life skills & the Torah’s approach and advice.
Boys will learn an array of life skills that are all rooted in Judaism, these lessons we hope will help equip them during their teenage years. Some of the topics include - Bullying, cheating, embarrassing others, respect, relationships, free choice, when we’re responsible to help or stand up for others and more.
Unit 3 – Community, Appreciation & Compassion
Through community involvement, the boys will acquire both a tremendous appreciation for what they have as well as through compassion feel the satisfaction of making a real impact on those less fortunate.
Unit 4 – Life changing, Guest presenters
Gen2Gen – Holocaust
Boys are given the honour to meet and talk with holocaust survivors. Each boy is given a bracelet with an engraved name of a victim who never had the opportunity to celebrate their Bar Mitzvah. The boys have the choice to research the person they were given and keep their memory alive during their Bar Mitzvah journey.
Scribe / Sofer
The Boys are given a rare opportunity to meet the scribe – a Rabbi who writes Torah, Tefillin and Mezuzot. The scribe will demonstrate the unique and lengthily process that goes into making the Tefillin giving the boys a greater appreciation for the Tefillin they have. The boys will also b give the opportunity to write with the scribes feather on parchment.
Hatzollah
Based on one of the greatest Mitzvot in the Torah – Health. The boys will enjoy a visit from Hatzollah who will give a brief CPR training session. Hatzollah will also briefly address drug and alcohol awareness and the dangers they lead to. We also hope to empower the boys to say no and to stand up to what’s right.
CSG – Community security group
A high energy session that’s loved by the boys and their parents, a Krav Mega training and safety session lead by the CSG.
Before hitting the gym mats for a Krav Mega session, the CSG will aim to instil in the boys a sense of awareness of their surroundings and preventative measures to take if ever feel they are entering into a compromised situation.
Victoria Police
A session that captivates and is enjoyed by every 13-year-old, a talk from the Victorian police!
The talk is followed by a discussion comparing secular ethics/law to Jewish ethics/Law in the area of responsibilities and duty to others.
Boys and parents are left fascinated when they discover that secular law revolves around a person’s rights being protected, while Torah law not only includes a person’s rights, but charges a person with the duty to helps others, bringing out the Torah's values on compassion, unity and sanctity of live.
